  • INFORMATION

Sekichuka multicup is a cup for multiple use, suitable as a tea cup and as a matcha bowl. Sekichuka means "flowers in the snow". The artist Tanii created this bowl in the early spring atmosphere. This multicup is made with three layers of glaze. the red or mauve color glaze looks like a flower in the snow. The brown color on the underside resembles earth under the snow. The Sekichuka is a magical multicup, traditional and simple yet sophisticated and modern. It all depends on you to what extent this multicup can extend your "green moment".

  • ARTIST

The red or mauve color that appears on the white glaze is a unique technique developed by Mr. Tanii. He makes use of the difference in melting point between the two glazes. The red color glaze, which is very rare, is obtained by reduced copper. The white glaze is based on the NAMAKO glaze, which was developed around the beginning of the 20th century by Naokata Tanii, who stood six generations before Hozan, and was known for its quality Shigaraki Yaki. The traditional NAMAKO glaze has been updated in a modern style. The brown color is caused by soil that contains fine iron. The burnt iron has a faint shimmer or luster, and the technique is known as iron solubilization.

    Hozan Tanii
Hozan Tanii was born in 1953. He graduated from the technical art department of Osaka Art University. And he took over the third generation of Tanikan Kiln in 1983. He is one of the few craftsmen to explore the infinite beauty, depth and scope of clay itself, unlike the many craftsmen who explore glaze colors or prints. He has and makes full use of fourteen types of kilns and tens of thousands of types of glaze to bring out the limitless possibilities of earth clay. He often goes to the mountain in Shigaraki where he lives and collects clay there. He has been experimenting with the clay he finds for over 30 years, trying to bring out the infinite possibilities of clay. All his arts are well planned and elaborated in different points of view, beauty, function, usefulness and so on. Additionally, made from sustainable natural elements, his creations work symbiotically with the Earth's ecosystem.
